Best Car Lifts for a Home Garage (2026): By 8, 9, 10 and 12-Foot Ceilings

The best lift for a home garage is the one the garage can take. A 12-foot ceiling and a slab that passes a test drill can take the BendPak 10AP ($6,095), the full-size two-post whose maker names ALI certification on its page; a 10-foot ceiling takes the MaxJax M7K ($5,195), the 89.5-inch portable two-post; an 8-foot ceiling, a rental, or a slab nobody has drilled takes a QuickJack 8000TLX ($2,302) or 6000TLX ($2,114), two feet of rise with no anchors, or the BendPak MD-6XP mid-rise scissor (47 inches, $3,595 at dealers). For a second car stored in the air, the Atlas Garage Pro 8000 ($3,399 at a dealer, $3,799 on Amazon) and APlusLift HW-8S ($3,099) are freestanding four-posts on casters with 110 V units. The Atlas 9KOHX ($2,599 to $2,899) is the full-size two-post for the budget, and the Albott 7,000 lb portable ($1,300) and KATOOL 7,000 lb mid-rise ($1,898) are the Amazon lifts with complete listings. Every pick carries its ceiling, rise, slab, power and certification figures; the ceiling and concrete guide and calculator are where to start if any of those numbers is unknown.

How we chose

Lifts sold to home garages in the US with a maker's spec sheet or a complete listing, judged on overall height, rise, capacity, concrete and power requirements, certification statement, warranty, what is included and price (October 9, 2026), and then sorted by the garage each fits. Maker figures from bendpak.com, quickjack.com and the BendPak and MaxJax manuals; Atlas from its dealer and Amazon listings; the rest from Amazon listings. No lift is called safe here; the ALI page explains the one third-party test and which makers state it, and the ALI lift checker searches every model in ALI's directory.

By ceiling

The arithmetic (ceiling minus vehicle minus margin minus pad) is the calculator's; the figures are the makers'. Measure at the door track, not the joists.

By slab

Anchored (two-post, MaxJax): the slab has to meet the manual, which for BendPak is 4.25 inches of steel-reinforced 3,000 PSI concrete cured 28 days, for Atlas 4 inches at 3,000 PSI, and for MaxJax 3,000 PSI with its anchors in a 4.25-inch slab and never a post-tensioned one. Freestanding (four-posts, QuickJack, scissor, pad lifts): no drilling, which is why they are the answer for a rental, a thin slab or a floor you may want back. The concrete guide has the manuals' words.

By power

110 V: QuickJack units, MaxJax (110 or 220), MD-6XP, Atlas Garage Pro 8000 (with a 30 A breaker by its listing), APlusLift, the Amazon mid-rise and pad lifts. 208 to 240 V: BendPak 10AP and 9APF, Atlas 9KOHX, the Amazon two-posts. Every manual we read requires a licensed electrician; the electrical guide has each maker's statement.

By the work

Wheels off, standing: a two-post. Wheels off, on a stool: MaxJax, a mid-rise scissor. Wheels off, on a creeper: QuickJack and the pad lifts. Oil changes, exhaust, storage: a four-post, with a bridge jack for wheels. The two-post versus four-post comparison is the longer answer.

What to skip

Skip buying any lift before the ceiling is measured at the door track and the slab is drilled. Skip a two-post for a post-tensioned slab. Skip reading CE on an import listing as ALI certification. Skip a four-post for a bay under 15 feet deep. And skip the 110 V lifts' convenience as a reason to skip the electrician; the makers do not.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best car lift for a home garage with an 8-foot ceiling?

By column height: QuickJack (no columns, 24 in of rise), the BendPak MD-6XP or KATOOL mid-rise scissor (no columns, 39 to 47 in), a four-post at 83 to 88 in (Atlas Garage Pro 8000, APlusLift HW-8S, BendPak HD-9) or the MaxJax M7K at 89.5 in. A 60-inch car on any of them stops about 30 inches up before its roof meets the ceiling.

Which home car lift is ALI certified?

By ALI's directory on October 12, 2026: the BendPak 10AP and the QuickJack 6000TLX and 8000TLX are listed, the QuickJacks since March 9, 2026, though QuickJack's pages mention only ALI-certified manuals. The MaxJax M7K, the BendPak MD-6XP, the Atlas Garage Pro 8000 and 9KOHX, the APlusLift HW-8S and the Albott and KATOOL lifts are not. Search the exact model in the directory.

Do I need to bolt a car lift to the floor?

Two-post lifts and the MaxJax anchor to the slab, with requirements in their manuals (BendPak: 4.25 in, 3,000 PSI, 28 days). Four-posts, QuickJack, scissor and pad lifts are freestanding.

What is the cheapest car lift worth buying?

Albott's 7,000 lb portable pad lift at $1,300 and QuickJack's 6000TL at $1,925 are the two under $2,000 with complete listings. Both give about two feet of rise and need no anchors.

Can a car lift run on a normal outlet?

The 110 V lifts (QuickJack, MaxJax's 110 V unit, MD-6XP, the four-posts and pad lifts) can, if the circuit has the capacity; Atlas's listing requires a 30 A breaker for the Garage Pro 8000. Every maker's manual we read requires a licensed electrician to decide.

How much does a home car lift cost installed?

Lift prices run $1,300 (Albott) to $6,095 (BendPak 10AP, HD-9). Freight (a two-post ships at 1,600 to 1,800 lb and needs a forklift), installation of an anchored lift, the electrician and any concrete work are on top and quoted locally.
