About Garage Equipment Review

Independent buying guides for the home mechanic: car lifts, motorcycle lifts, engine hoists and stands, floor jacks and jack stands, transmission jacks, tire changers and balancers, blast cabinets, parts washers, shop presses and creepers.

Why this site exists

Garage equipment is sold on a capacity number and a price, while the things that decide whether a lift works in your garage, ceiling height, slab thickness, bay width, power supply and certification, sit in the installation manual. We read the manuals and spec sheets, put the figures side by side, and say which one fits which garage and why.

What we cover

  • Car lifts. Two-post, four-post, scissor, mid-rise and portable lifts, and the ceiling, concrete and power each one needs.
  • Hoists and jacks. Engine hoists and stands, floor jacks, jack stands, transmission jacks and dollies, by rated load.
  • Tire and shop equipment. Tire changers, wheel balancers, blast cabinets, parts washers, shop presses and creepers.
  • Calculators. Lift and ceiling height fit, and engine hoist capacity at boom extension.
  • Safety data. Every jack stand, jack and lift recall since 1990, and a search of all 1,649 ALI certified lift models.

How the guides are made

Guides are researched and written with the help of AI tools, working from the documents listed at the end of each page: maker spec sheets and manuals, standards and government pages, and owner reports. Figures are checked against those sources, and a guide names its source when a number comes from somewhere other than the maker. The full process is on our methodology page.

If you find a mistake, write to info@garageequipmentreview.com. Corrections are made on the page and the updated date changes.

How the site is paid for

Product links go to Amazon, or to the maker's own store for brands that sell only direct. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you; a link to a maker's store earns us nothing. No brand pays for a place in a guide, sends us its picks, or sees a guide before it is published.
